I need a video camera with a mic jack for filming video podcasts. What is the best camera at the best price fo

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I would recommend looking into the Canon FS100 Flash Memory Camcorder
and to stay away from high def for many reasons.

high def videos are not small files and sites like vimeo.com and youtube do not let you upload videos in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264
Unless you already have thought about your workflow and have experience in video editing etc. read some reviews and look around you should be able to find a good deal on something under $300
If you do decide to go high def buy from a place with a good return policy etc.

I own a canon Canon VIXIA HF100 and use Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Version 12. sometimes I think I would also like to own a canon fs 100 because it would be very simple to just record and copy to the pc and upload... just like that. maybe I will get luck and the hf100 will get a hack like chdk and be able to record in different codecs, Like how I can now shoot in RAW on my tiny canon sd1000.

Granted I'm coming at this as being more of a still photographer than a videographer but the value, quality, and versatility of the Canon 5D Mk II seems unmatched. 1080p video plus the ability to use external mics plus the ability to also shoot stills. Vincent Laforet has a post on his blog about external microphone options. Link is in the citation.

I recommend the Sanyo Xacti, and there are 6 new ones to choose from.  Not only is it priced well, it's compact, so that you can take it anywhere and fit it in a pocket easily

You can find a bunch of Sany Xacti cameras here:

http://www.sanyodigital.com

Not only is it a good product, you can select from various different ones.

I did not see where it had an input jack for an external mic. They all seemed ot have built in mics only

Xacti HD1000 comes with a microphone adapter cable. I believe some of the others might include this cable, or it's extra. You can attach an external microphone to this cable adapter.
