I need a song recommendation for my fiance's video 'Reel'

Used for the intro/background music... - should be upbeat, groovy, modern, catchy --- should give the impression that she has her finger on the pulse of pop culture --- want her to come across as super CURRENT.... no country music, hard rock, etc... -- possibly 80's new-wave --- think music that would fit the iphone/ipod billboard commercials on sunset, etc... The video subject relates to food, fun, lifestyle, culture - live segments on a popular morning show - music needs to be a good fit for a thirty year old trendsetting diva...

These bands are really good... if she likes the sound of one, but not the song... there are plenty more to pick from. I just picked my favorites. I love that go team song -milk crisis, the ping pong song and the ice cream song. The starkillers has always been one of my favorites but I am afraid it's not what you are looking for.

"Summertime Clothes" by Animal Collective from the album Merriweather Post Pavilion

Listen here: http://popup.lala.com/popup/360569462364571796

It's a vibrant, energy pulsing song that is actually about someone meeting up with a friend in the middle of the night during Summer to walk around the city.

Merriweather Post Pavilion was the top new album of 2009 as voted by metacritic.com, but most people never heard of it. If she plays it as her song for her reel, people would really know that she has a good taste in modern music, not just listening to what the radio plays.

Lyrics:

Sweet summer night and I'm stripped to my sheets

Forehead is leaking, my AC squeaks and

A voice from the clock says, "You're not gonna get tired"

My bed is a pool and the walls are on fire

Soak my head in the sink for a while

Chills on my neck and it makes me smile but

My bones have to move and my skin's gotta breathe

You pick up the phone and I'm so relieved

You slide down your stairs to the heated street

And the sun has left us with slippery feet

And I want to walk around with you

And I want to walk around with you

And be here with you, we're goin'

It doesn't really matter, I'll go where you feel

Hunt for the breeze, get a midnight meal

I point in the windows, you point out the parks

Rip off your sleeves and I'll ditch my socks

We'll dance to the songs from the cars as they pass

Weave through the cardboard, smell that trash

Walking around in our summertime clothes,

Nowhere to go while our bodies glow

And we'll greet the dawn in its morning blues

With purple yawn, you'll be sleeping soon

And I want to walk around with you

And I want to walk around with you

When the sun goes down, we'll go out again

Don't cool off, I like your warmth

Let's leave the sound of the heat for the sound of the rain

It's easy to sleep when it wets my brain

It covers my rest with a saccharine sheen

Kissing the wind through my window screen

The restlessness calls us, that I cannot hide

So much on my mind that it spills outside

Do you want to go stroll down the financial street?

Our clothes might get soaked, but the buildings sleep

And there's no one pushing for a place

As we end up at an easy pace

And I want to walk around with you

And I want to walk around with you

I want to walk around with you

Just you, just you, just you...

My suggestion wold be a song by the UK band James. It's called Falling Down but this title is a little misleading . . .

Take a look at the lyrics.

"Baby's on the lamb tonight
Her sky's all full of stars
And love's just something that always goes wrong
That looks and smokes like Ava Gardner

Baby's gonna blow your lights
Adjust your back-lit charm
And if she deems to touch your heart
You can tune into your senses

Chorus:
Baby's coming alive to her wild side
She can burn down the lie to the dream

Baby trades you blow for blow
Crowns you like a queen
But if you stroke her long enough
Baby turns to cream

Baby's neptune's in your moon
Venus in your third
She's in bloom from June through June
Says love's no noun, love's a reverb

Chorus :
Baby's coming alive to her wild side
She can burn down the lie to the dream"

The recorded version is funky, snappy and very catchy.

The 30-second i-tunes store preview does it pretty good justice

(Search for the artist James and the album "Pleased To Meet You")

You can also watch a live performance here.

Good luck in the search!

I'll throw my two suggestions into the hat:

1. Bulletproof by La Roux - Catchy and does kind of have an 80s sound, (especially the chorus!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUsbpmQ9-mc

2. Syphonies (remix ft Kid Cudi) by Dan Black - Eltectro-pop with lots of hip-hop influence - my current track of the moment i'm addicted to!

The Take Action compilation's second disc has a lot of modern bands playing an 80s throw-back sound.

Beautiful Day - U2 - or Magnificent off their last album. Both upbeat and current.

Lenny Kravitz is always current, maybe Are You Gonna Go My Way

Good Luck

I've got a few suggestions. If you're looking to make the statement "trendsetting diva", I think Goldfrapp would be an excellent choice. Her sound basically is updated new wave/club music, so I think it would capture a lot of the elements that you are going for. The two songs I would recommend most for this type of reel are Ooh La La and Strict Machine.

Ooh La La:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dehm7EyjW9s

Strict Machine:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2VktozqkSc

Another option I thought of was Pop Muzik by M. It is a catchy tune with a vibe that seems to fit what you are going for, but what really made me think about it is the way the chorus is set up. It is repetition of the lines "Talk about... Pop Muzik", and the way the pause is set up in between "talk about" and "Pop Muzik" would potentially allow for using the "talk about" loop to highlight in the video the things that she talks about in her segments.

I'm not sure if this is the kind of groove she's after but I discovered it on iLike. I think it has the "upbeat, groovy, modern, catchy" qualities you stated.

Lyrics:http://www.elyrics.net/read/l/lily-allen-lyrics/22-lyrics.html
When she was 22 the future looked bright
But she's nearly 30 now and she's out every night
I see that look in her face, she's got that look in her eye
She's thinking how did I get here and wondering why

It's sad but it's true how society says her life is already over
There's nothing to do and there's nothing to say
'Til the man of her dreams comes along
Picks her up and puts her over his shoulder
It seems so unlikely in this day and age

She's got an alright job but it's not a career
Whenever she thinks about it, it brings her to tears
'Cause all she wants is a boyfriend, she gets one night stands
She's thinking how did I get here, I'm doing all that I can

It's sad but it's true how society says her life is already over
There's nothing to do and there's nothing to say
'Til the man of her dreams comes along
Picks her up and puts her over his shoulder
It seems so unlikely in this day and age

It's sad but it's true how society says her life is already over
There's nothing to do and there's nothing to say
'Til the man of her dreams comes along
Picks her up and puts her over his shoulder
It seems so unlikely in this day and age

-Check out "Phenomena" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It's hip, has bold female vocals and is very catchy.
-Also listen to "Knock You Out" by Tiësto featuring Emily Haines. It is upbeat and feels modern.
-Robyn is another artist to look into. Her new album has a nice beat to it.
-The Killers have some good songs that draw influence from the 80's.
-Lastly, Franz Ferdinand and Modest Mouse's upbeat songs tend to sound like ipod commerical selections.

I know a fantastic song, its up beat and modern, most people when they hear it
on my play list stop to listen to the words and it makes them smile.
I’ve had a number of people ask me who sung it and where to get it from, its catchy and has no bad stuff in it.

I love the whole album...........
