I need a DJ in Los Angeles for my party. How can I find a great one?

I'm having a big party this year, and I want to know the best way to find a DJ in Los Angeles. I'm sure there are lots of party DJs in Los Angeles, but my question is: How can I find the best one?

I'm not necessarily looking for specific recommendations, but if you know of any feel free to pass them along. A friend of mine has highly recommended http://www.bananadjs.com (since they also provide lighting), but mainly I'm wondering which ways you would go about finding a party DJ in Los Angeles (other than a simple Google search). Another important thing is once I find a few good DJ websites, how should I go about narrowing them down and choosing the best one (i.e. Testimonials, etc)?

Thanks for your help!

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Forget a DJ, make your own music. Burn cds or build mp3s, whatever you like. If you're having a party, you know the crowd. Play what you and your friends want to hear. Making your own music is easy and fun. It is possible that starting with something as simple as this could set you on a path of becoming a little more self-reliant. Not a bad bonus for throwing a party, heck, maybe a cause for having a second celebration.
