I need a Brown Rice Recipe that will win over the pickiest eater. Can you help?

My hubby is a picky Southern white bread eater. We both love rice and I introduced him to flavors of long grains, such as Jasmine. I grew up having brown rice occasionally... but the way my family made it was bland and boring. My hubby says "yuck!" to brown rice and says I'll waste my money buying it.

Is there a recipe out there that will win over his taste buds? Is there a recipe out there that will make me love brown rice, instead of thinking it's just 'okay'. My problem with brown rice is that it always tastes too dry.

Help us find some rice so yummy, that we'll wear it!

The simplest way to make brown rice more flavorful is to cook it in something other than plain water. I'll cook my rice in chicken broth, which can give some flavor, or I'll add a spice packet to the water with the rice. I often use a Goya Adobo seasoning blend, but you can also use some Tony's Creole spices, or Old Bay Seasoning. Adding flavoring through a broth or seasoning makes a huge difference. I've also found my kids are far more likely to eat rice if I put a small pat of butter on top.

I'll try that. Thanks!
Is there a brand of brown rice that's better? Where do you buy your brown rice?

I had a basic rice cooking container that went in the microwave, and it was perfect for white rice, and horrible with brown rice. I don't know what the problem/difference was. I just cook it on the stove now, I don't cook it frequently enough to justify a rice cooker.

For seasonings, also try the Mrs. Dash blends, they are salt-free, and they have a great variety.

I buy my rice at the regular grocery store, and I don't think I've ever bought a particular brand.

If you're in a pinch, there's an Uncle Ben's rice pouch that cooks in 90 seconds. There's a bunch of flavors, but I think they have plain brown rice too. I like their Jasmine rice, and my boys like the cheesy rice. It's expensive, but I'll use a coupon and only use it when I'm in a hurry.

If you eat a lot of rice, you may want to get a rice cooker, which makes cooking rice easy and foolproof. I've burnt the bottom of the pan a couple of times when I wasn't keeping an eye on my cooking rice on the stove.

Yea, I use rice quite a bit as a staple and have a basic rice cooker that I use the hell out of. I have heard though... that brown rice doesn't cook as well using a basic rice cooker. Should I invest in one that's a little more 'complex'?

My honey likes those 'saffron rice' packets at the store and we use those sometimes, but the rice tastes too salty and processed. I try to stay away from Uncle Ben's or other processed rice stuff. It just tastes weird to me. I also heard that they do some strange stuff to the rice to make it less sticky. I'm probably paranoid... (looking over my shoulder)

I use Mahatma brand brown rice primarily because its grown in the USA but also because its naturally sodium free, cholesterol free, and has no saturated fat.

They have some tasty recipes on their website
I love brown rice pudding with maple syrup
This is one of my favorite brown rice recipes
Stuffed tomatoes with brown rice, onion, and cheddar cheese.
Ingredients:
•2 teaspoons butter
•1/2 cup chopped onion
•1 cup uncooked brown rice
•1 cup chicken broth
•1 tablespoon lemon juice
•3 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley
•6 large tomatoes
•1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Prep:
Melt butter in a heavy skillet over medium low heat; add onions and cook until tender. Stir in rice, chicken broth, and lemon juice; bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 45 minutes, or until rice is tender. Remove from heat and stir with a fork to fluff rice. Stir in chopped parsley.
Core tomatoes, removing some of the loose pulp from the center. Fill each tomato with rice mixture then top with shredded cheese. Place in a large baking dish. Place stuffed tomatoes under broiler until cheese is melted.

I also like Brown rice and mushrooms
Ingredients:
•3 tablespoons butter
•16 ounces fresh sliced mushrooms
•1 cup slivered blanched almonds
•1 cup brown rice
•3 cups water
•1/4 to 1/2 cup chopped pimiento
•1 teaspoon salt
•1/8 teaspoon pepper
nothing fancy really, just sauté your choice of mushrooms along with some almond slivered almonds in the butter until a nice golden brown then add remaining ingredients, cover and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer 45 minutes, until rice is tender.
sometimes i toss in a few mandarin orange wedges to sweeten and moisten it up, really depends on what type mushrooms i'm useing.
I eat alot of brown rice and use it in a bunch of recipes
