Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The best answer I can offer is an "amateur historian." There's an interesting article on academic historians vs amateurs at the source link below. There's no stigma to being an "amateur". In some ways, you probably have a better grasp of history than the professors!

Excellent article, except it misses an entire class of people: those who simply like to learn over a wide range of history, and eventually, after years perhaps, start making connections. While the professional historian tends to be micro-focused, the amateur as described in the article is still focused on one rather small area (i.e. naval battles in WWII or Jack the Ripper). People who are interested in history on a wider level but like to go rather deeply into one subect after another are the ones who sometimes see the connections the others miss.

The best I can come up with is the made up "historyphile" or "historyophile" term. But you can go here for more info: http://www.historyophile.com/
