I like my bandannas. Are some bandanna colors or patterns dangerous to carry?

I keep a bandanna in my pocket instead of a handkerchief, and use it wipe my forehead, etc. I've heard that some gangs use bandannas as their identifying colors, and I've heard you can get beat up if they think you're trying to impersonate a gang member.

Are there certain patterns or colors I should avoid carrying?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The bigger concern would be what area you are hanging out it. Chances are good you are safe with any color/pattern, so long as you don't happen to wander into a gangs territory. The use of bandana's is most common used on the west (specifically California) and are much less common throughout the rest of the country.

That being said, the most common colors to be concerned about would be Red (this is used by the Bloods) and Blue (this is used by the Crips)... other colors are used by smaller gangs but are less common (such as Yellow or Black for the Latin Kings). A slightly larger list is as follows:

Crips - main color is Blue
Bloods - main color is Red (or burgundy if they are Piru)
Green - certain gangs identified with Parks or certain cities (Gardena Shotgun Crips or Lincoln Park Bloods[San Diego])
Purple - Grape Street Watts Crips (L.A.)
Brown - Fudgetown Crips (Compton)
Orange - Hoover Criminals (South Central Los Angeles)
Surenos (Mexicans - Southern Cali) - Blue
Nortenos (Mexicans - Northern Cali) - Red

It's not that dangerous if you're not brandishing them. But if you're really concerned, avoid red (bloods), blue (crips), and yellow (kings). All the other ones are safe.
