I just installed an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core Processor but why is Windows only showing 2 processors?
I'm running Vista and just put in 4 GB of memory (2 sticks of 2 GB). Strangely also the system in Task Manager is registering only 3 GB of memory. It's an MSI 7366 motherboard. It's supposed to be able to accommodate 4 GB of memory and this processor. What is going on?

So the second question is easy. You have Vista 32 bit. Which means you can only address 3 GB of memory or so. So that's why it says you only have 3GB of ram.
The first question is probably because there are different "cores" installed depending on what processor you have when you install Vista. I'm reasonably sure you will have to reinstall Vista and magically your additional cores will show up.

I've also worked in I.T. for a very long time.
With your upgrades, Vista 64 bit will show a significant improvement. I'd recommend that you backup your data, completely format your hard drive and install Vista 64 bit.
I'd also recommend that you use Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image to create an image of Vista after you have configured it. Install Vista, Office, configure your e-mail, IM, etc. Do all of the Windows updates. Then, Image your drive with Acronis. When Vista slows down, starts to act wonky or you run into a software problem, it will only take you 20 min with no work to return to the point where you created the image. This has saved me COUNTLESS hours of technical support.
