The vast majority of the Hungarian population speaks Hungarian or Magyar, a Uralic Finno-Ugric language related to the Ugric languages of Western Siberia and distantly related to the Finno-Permic languages of Northeastern Europe. Hungarian is in strike contrast with its neighboring Indo-European languages in terms of grammar, although the language has absorbed a lot of Slavic and Greco-Roman vocabulary.
Roma or Gypsy, German, and Slavic languages, notably Slovak, are also spoken by minorities in Hungary.
