I haven't even finished ordering comcast internet and I'm already angry. How is it legal to charge $100 for a technician to flip a switch?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The technician is going to run tests on the cabling leading to your house, and the cabling within your house leading to wherever in the house you want to setup the cable modem. The tech also has to get at least one computer setup for your connection. At $100 for the visit, which can take anything from one to three hours, Comcast will barely break even.
Here they usually send three guys: one to carry the clipboard, one to carry the cable modem and one to carry the toolbox (this is no joke, I am being 100% serious here). The reason they do it is because over one day the three can fulfill a lot more service calls than if each one took one third of the calls, and if you put one experienced guy with two newbies, you get the work done and training at the same time.
