I have no idea whether I have tipped someone already for an answer, or if I still need to fulfil my tip offered for that question?
How do I tell?
I asked someone a direct question and they answered it. My tip was a voluntary tip that I chose myself. I have awarded Best Answer and a rating to the answer. But at the bottom it says "Tip such-and-such for this answer."
Do I still need to click on this link to actually give out the tip? I saw my mahalo dollars balance go down when I offered the tip - does this mean it got given automatically when I choose a Best Answer?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Y'know, I think I had the same issue yesterday. I think this might be a glitch (I saw that my "recent activity" had been updated with the answer and rating, and moved on) and that you should bring this to the attention of @coreymac.
And, welcome to Mahalo, derosajohanna! (hey, I meant that seriously, not sarcastically)

haha, thanks!
Hi, any newbies who have found this question because they are confused about the same thing!
We eventually figured out how it works:
-If you have offered a tip on one of your questions, your tip is taken out of your Mahalo dollars then and there, when you submit the question.
-So, when you go back and choose a Best Answer, that is when the tip gets automatically given to the Best Answerer. You don't have to worry about clicking anything else; it's done.
-After a few days, you will be reminded to choose a Best Answer for any question you ask. If you actually go ahead and choose No Best Answer, because no anwers were helpful, this is the only time a tip won't get given. Your money will be returned to you.
-So don't worry if after you choose a best anwer, you still see a blue link saying "Tip Such-and-Such for this answer". It doesn't mean you haven't tipped them and you have not given out the tip promised. This is just an option to tip even more at a later date; or for other people to give a tip even though it wasn't their question. The minimum on these tips is $1 at the moment, as of 19 Jan 2010.
Hope this is helpful!
