i have a very old wooden case and am wanting to know what it is called and what is was used for?

On the inside it is lined w/light blue felt. On the outside it has hook and eye latches, a finished bumpy surface w/wooden carvings in the middle of each side and the carvings are of some sort of design. It is 14 inches high, 25 inches long and 4 inches deep.It opens lengthwise, right in the middle, w/a medal handle only on one side of the depth. This is the best way that i can describe it, but i feel like im not doing it any justice.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

"Some sort of design" is where you're not doing this case justice. I would recommend outlining the design(s) in detail, or better yet - take a picture, upload it to a hosting site like Photobucket and give us the link to it. Wood with blue felt... who knows what that's for - it's the carving that'll really make it unique and tell the history (or at least, culture) of the box.

I would take the case to a pawn shop or antique shop that may be able to reveal more information about it and its history. They do this for a living and will be able to at least direct you where to go if they can't answer your question. Just look up your local antique store or pawn shop, good luck!
