I had McAffee for my Dell laptop but I just purchased a Macbook. What do I have to do to move the software?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You'd need to get the Mac version of McAfee.

Actually, there are ZERO real world viruses on OS X. The malware that threatens Macs cinsists of trojans, phishing scams, etc. which are different from viruses. They attack the naivete of the user. All running antivirus software on a Mac does is slow down the computer. In the future, when viruses do appear, running antivirus software could well be necessary. When running antivirus software on Macs WAS necessary, under earlier OSs, Apple included it with their machines.

If you run a Windows partition in Boot Camp, or a virtual machine in VMWare Fusion or Parallels, you should run antivirus software. I run AVG Free, but there are plenty of options

As long as you keep the Mac updated you don't need virus software like McAffee.

There are still some Mac viruses, and Macs can also spread Windows viruses via attachments.

I'd recommend that she get a good solid antivirus.
