I get a ton of mail from insurance companies saying they can save me on my car insurance...How do you know which is best?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

My advice is to take some time, to actually sit down and call the companies and talk to an actual agent yourself. This way you can ask about added discounts, as some companies do (ie. AAA offers a discount for having HAP insurance), things like that. Also, you can then tell them what another company was willing to give you and they can work with that. Then ask for something in writing, saying that your rate is guaranteed not to skyrocket the next year, that this is not a one year promotional price.
This is what I have done, and found it the best way to actually save money, the mailers are just a way to try and make you sign up, they take bulk averages of savings and send them out, not actually what you, yourself, may save.
Personal experience.
