I gave counteroffer to employer 3 days ago, she said she'd call back. Do I call?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I had to interview a bunch of human resource managers for a communications class my first week of college. The answer they resoundingly gave was no. Don't call. If they say they're going to call you, sit tight and wait for the call. Most said they'd be fine with a thank you card or a thank you email while an applicant is waiting. That might be a good way to keep your name present with the employer and maybe jog her memory if calling you back has just slipped her mind.

Yes, call back to allow the employer to infer that you really want the job. Try and remind the employer some of the high points of your interview and how your goals and the goals of the company align. Leaving it in the hands of the employer allows someone else to get in the door who are doing the above things.

Dan Miller is a business guru I listen to on the '48 Days to the Work You Love' podcast. I've included his links below as he has some stellar advice in both getting jobs and going out and creating your own business.

Cheers!

Ideally you'd have asked them when your were likely to hear back from them. If you did that then you can take that period, add a couple of days, and call them after that.

If you didn't ask them that... a big company can take a while in the back-and-forth between different deparments, and three days isn't all that long. So if it's a big company and you're not in a rush to make a decision I'd leave it for a week.
