I enjoy well shot video and am always looking for ways to improve. What are some videos of bands that were better than the "official" video?
Remeber those "-Name of Show- was recorded on tape in front of a live studio audience" blurbs at the start or end of shows? That's part of what I do when I'm not fixing things.
I always like to see VERY well done production videos as well as live performance video. I'm always trying to improve my skills as a director, and I try to incorporate new things when possible into my work.
My last question asked for some of the best "was the director drunk?" videos. http://www.mahalo.com/answers/music/what-are-some-of-the-best-what-the-was-the-director-drunk-music-videos-youve-seen
This time, I want the opposite.
What are some music videos you've seen where a live performance video was clearly much better than the "official" production video the label released?
This is what I'm looking for:
This is the "official" promo video for Electric Six's "Danger! High Voltage"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a4gyJsY0mc
It's well shot - done on location, well lit, and the "props" are funny to watch when they're activated in time with the music. The crew that shot this video most likely did it in one day.
This is the same song, same band, shot LIVE:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB0_EKS5H2s
This is the video I show to interns who think they know how to shoot video. It leaves jaws open when they see it. Multi-camera shoot, lighting director making flawless scene changes, camera operators always in focus, no gratuitous use of the crane camera...this is a video that showcases what a great crew at a properly equipped facility can do.
I want to see your favorite band examples where the live performance video is clearly better than the "official" production video. Note: I want links to both the "official / original" video and the "live" performance of the same.
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

This is the video of them live:

This is the original:

The video, doesn't so much capture emotion, but you're able to understand what the song is talking about, if you were looking at the live one, you just heard the song, and not the meaning behind it.

M$It is the most creative thing I've seen. It's a song with a Mario Bros video with Mario brothers sounds from the game corresponding with the music. The sounds go with the beats melody and the person is playing the game. Check it out.

It's the first video.
