I bought a tin of syrup and a bottle of cranberry juice. If I boil the 2 together, what would happen?

You could also substitute chutney for cranberry sauce, if cranberry sauce is not available.

If you really want to use the ingredients you bought, you will need a thickening agent. Other than pectin, which was already suggested, you could try using unflavored gelatin. I'm worried that if you heated up the syrup, that it would harden and become a hard candy-like texture.
Good luck.
