I bought a painting on the weekend from local artist Kimberly Crowe but forgot to ask her the title. What would you call it? (pic below)

M$If you squint your eyes and tilt your head, it looks like a cute bunny on the beach (oh.. wait, that's just my reflection in the monitor!)
But seriously... I looked at her bio and know she lives up North in Ontario now, but has spent a lot of time in Florida. The colors look a little more tropical to me.
Why not call it 'Miami Wind'?
bunnyphuphu, lol, your reflection... made my day. :) :)

M$That's cool... it is a very nice painting. I like it a lot.
But I donno about re-titling the work of an artist... aren't they sorta picky about that sort of thing?
Is this artist different? It would actually be a pretty cool thing if an artist did let the owner name it. The name would reflect what the painting meant to him/her, not just the artist.
That's pretty cool!!!
Well, my vote still goes for "Kimberly's Sunset".
Defiantly some good suggestions in here too though!
Yes it is, I have her card and contact info. but I thought it would be more fun to ask my Mahalo buddies. I also wanted to show off my picture. :-)
Checking the website you gave, the majority of her landscape/seascape work is untitled or just given the year as the title. The exceptions are the ones entitled "Beautiful", "Centennial Beach", "Collingwood", "Orillia", "Blue Sunset", "Waves (I & II)", which come to 6 out of 22 (that are named). It might just be that it never had a title; I would think that she wouldn't mind in that case. (Unless she had Untitled on her website as place-holders, which seems very unlikely. But you never know.)
As I promised I contacted Kimberey and here is her response.
"I actually did not title any of the work rather just what they were in my head. I also did not sign ...I have done both before but I just didn't feel to this time. I felt very connected to all my work and that was enough for me.
If you would like to title the work and that works for you, then it is yours and I am glad that you enjoy it and it has made me very happy to know my work or babies are somewhere that they are appreciated.
Thanks again for your support.

M$As an artist myself, I'm not sure I agree with this. Much of the beauty of art, particularly abstract art like this painting, is that it can be interpreted in different ways. The art is not only what is on the canvas, but what it means in the mind of the viewer.
I, for one, often think of a title for an image after I've done the work. I'm more attached to the art itself rather than to the title.
I agree with jfesmire about interpreting in different ways. Sometimes leaving something untitled is much more powerful. wdawe, do you plan to place a little white card by wherever you place the piece or do you want to have a title for when someone asks about it? If your putting it up in your home, a little white card doesn't really look so nice beyond an exhibit. Maybe it would be even better if you asked the asker (in person) what you are asking the Mahalo community... maybe it would be a great conversation starter.
I don't think she titles her works. My plan is to tell her about this question and ask her if she had a title and post it here.

The most poetic suggestion, so far.
A great suggestion if you must give the piece a name. I'm going to refrain from giving another answer, but interzone is right... I would say both "Unsettled Rainbow" and "Castes of Color" are poetic.
Specifically, "Castes of Color" makes me think of the historical and cultural implications behind labeling people by the color of their skin and it could bring people into an interesting conversation about justice and the blurring of lines. Hmmm, you could tell people "The piece has an unofficial title - Castes of Color." Poetic justice?
Got it! Thank you!
@greenfreelancer - yes, I like the idea of blurring the lines of division.
Yes, that's a good one too.
