I believe that Jan Stenerud is the only place kicker in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Why are there not more kickers in the Hall? I know th

ey are specialty players who only get on the field a few times per game, but many times they are instrumental in the won or loss of a game. Not only for kicking field goals but for kickoffs. A poor kickoff oftentimes leads to great field position for the opposing team or a return for a touchdown. If you believer kickers should get in, which kickers past or present do you believe deserve the honor?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I thought you were wrong until I looked for myself. I just knew Pat Summerall was in the NFL Hall of Fame just for the teams and time period he played.

There are several old time players that played several positions, including place kicker. Paul Horning, who was the first bad boy of the NFL, did a lot of place kicking. Lou Groza was an offensive Tackle and Place kicker. And there is also George Blanda who had 5 winning field goals in a row for the Oakland Raiders in 1970 although he is listed in the Hall of Fame as a quarterback.

I think the only way it can be justified is that there is such a backlog of quality players that the kickers and punters have to wait their turn. Especially when the modern superstars get their chance to be chosen as soon as possible. It seems that they have to pick a current good talent as soon as they can. And let’s face it; kicking is just not always hip. It should be, but it isn’t.

I can think of several place kickers including Pat Summerall that deserve to be included, but I think that the punter Ray Guy will have to be ahead of them.

George Blanda did not want to be just a kicker.

Yes, you are right about those other players also kicking. I should have clarified my statement and saying ONLY a kicker. Those others did more than just kick. Good answer
