Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

To prime your 500ml bottles, a general rule of thumb is to use 1 teaspoon of sugar for lagers and 1/2 teaspoon for ales. Just add it to the bottles before you transfer the beer, and you will be good to go.

John Palmer, a recognized expert in home brewing, recommends 2/3 cup of white sugar for 5 gallons.
Since there are 3785.412 ml in one gallon, that means that there are 3785.412 * 5 = 18927.06 ml in 5 gallons.
Divide 18927.06 ml by 500 ml bottles and you have 37.85 bottles of brew. Now divide that 0.667 cup of white sugar by 37.85 bottles and you get 0.01762 cups of white sugar per bottle. Since there are 48 teaspoons to a cup, multiply 48 times 0.01762 cups to get 0.846 teaspoons of white sugar per bottle.

Note that this a nominal amount based on how much CO2 you want to produce at a nominal room temperature.
