I am only 14 but this summer I want to be a singer and go to different places to perform for $. Do you have any tips or advice I can have?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Hi, I'm 17 yrs old. I agree that you should find different ways to promote your talent. At school, you could start or partake in a talent show.

Do you go to school with anyone in a band? I would recommend talking to them about what they do to get heard. Dont take this the wrong way, but there are a few bars in my town that get teens to perform weekly/monthly. Get in contact with similar places and even restaurants/coffee houses and sing your heart out.

I would also talk to the teacher(s) involved with the school orchestra. They can offer some valuable information. The orchestra in my school often performs at churches and other gathering places. If you come across any place that might need a singer, don't be afraid to ask. The worst-case scenario is a 'no thanks', but keep on looking. You will eventually get recognized.

If you want to make money, you'll have to build a portfolio. Cut your own album, promote yourself online and build relationships with local clubs, cafes, coffee shops that book singers.

The best thing you can do right now is perform as often as you can. Find every open mic in your area and perform as much as possible. The money will come over time.
