I am off to go bodyboarding next Sunday - I don't own any gear, any advice out there?

Check out my boogie boards page. At a minimum, you will need a body board, fins, and leash. If you are going to a tourist site, such as Waikiki, you can rent all this stuff at the beach.
Some boards are fairly slippery when new, so you could get some wax to make it rougher. On the other hand, this can give you a rash on your belly from lying down on the rough surface, so you can wear a rash guard, which is an elastic shirt, which will also block out the sun. If the water is really cold, then there are neoprene wet suit outfits or vests that you can also wear.
