I am new to MMA. I really don't know much about the sport. I do know that former NFL player Herschel Walker trained and won his
first fight several months ago. I've seen a little on television and it appears to be a combination of martial arts, boxing and pure street fighting. I can't help but think that if something like this took place on the streets that someone would get arrested for assault. How many people get seriously injured or even killed in MMA? I know boxers get killed sometimes too. Does anyone think the sport is just too violent or barbaric?

Well, like you I’m a bit of a newb when it comes to the MMA and that is mainly due to the fact that I’m just not a real big fan of fighting sports in general. Neither boxing nor mixed martial arts does much for me in the sporting department. I know some people would claim that the fact that I’m a big football fan means I’m being a bit of a hypocrite by saying that I believe that the MMA goes above and beyond what I feel is right as far as violence goes.
While in the NFL people are tackling each other and injuries occur, the goal of the sport isn’t to hurt someone to the point where they eventually surrender. I have watched a few matches and while its called Mixed Martial Arts, it seems as if when it gets right down to it, it is street fighting for money.
