I am losing interest in Mahalo.

Remember answering questions is just one small thing you can do on Mahalo.
Try venturing out into the forests that grow beyond this field and try your hand Page Building and or Mahalo Tasks, I just noticed you have yet to play with either system.

Either way, we hear you in regards to the amount of Open Threads.

M$This concern also seemed to be understood from Jason who said he had noticed the trend and said "we should probably slow down on those"... so another route would be to send messages to him and let him know your concern, or simply send a direct message with a link to this question so he can see the discussion!

M$We've definitely started focusing on putting a lot of different kinds of questions in the system, as opposed to just Open Threads, so this criticism has definitely been noticed.
But I'd back up Spoon's other suggestion 100%. We give the audience those interesting vs. uninteresting vote buttons for a reason. We want feedback! In fact, our system relies on it to function! So if you see stuff you don't like, vote it down and other stuff will pop up.
If the entire community started doing this, you all would control everything that gets seen on Mahalo's front page. So make your voice heard! That'd be my suggestion.
we have the opportunity here to give our input, just as you have with this question. those thoughts and ideas are taken into consideration by staff.
i see a wide diversity of questions here, and i am on Mahalo almost all day some days. maybe you just log in when not much is going on.
as for the open threads and discussions, frankly, i like that they are labeled. sometimes i go to a question and want to read and participate but it is actually a discussion and very lengthy... better to have them labeled that up front so i only go to those when that is what i am looking for.
i see a lot more questions than i do open threads or discussions... way more. although i will say they seem to come in groups, so if you only log in after a group of them, it might seem that there are more than there are.
i agree with some of the other answerers... post a question on something that interests you and get people involved in that... or explore the pages or tasks. ask questions from pages on subjects you are interested in.
there is plenty to do around here if you take a look.
but you might also need a break. i don't know how much time you spend here. =)
oh... should have added that the main mahalo answers page does not always show the most current questions... tips can bring it back higher on the list. i check that page and also the list on the front page of the site. lots of new ones there even though it says it is a list of the most interesting...
my 2 cents...

M$Also, the contests have been increasing, and page making opportunties also so that when you make a page for a Task you can keep it. The How to Tasks contest is also new, where you can keep the page after making it and may qualify to make more pages. Is there some topic that you know something about? that you would like to share your knowledge with others? Then when you have pages about topics that you care about - you don't have to ask questions that have nothing to do with anything, you can ask related to your pages of interest. Hope that helps. P.S. I think people may be taking vacations and taking advantage of the nice weather also for the last of the summer AND you may find them working just as hard as in Answers, in their own personal Pages. You may find yourself having too much fun to answer questions also! Hope that helps.

M$Then from identifying your feelings, I would try to link that to a need you are experiencing. For example, if you are feeling bored, then what you are reading here is not of interest of you, and that perhaps the need is for more fun and play, or maybe speed and efficiency. If you are feeling confused, maybe there is a need for more clarity and understanding. If you are feeling scared, then there maybe a need for safety. Perhaps the questions you really want to ask are taboo in your realm, or indicate some other vulnerability, like not wanting to reveal you don't know something, which would indicate a need for acceptance. And if you are feeling lonely, then the lack of immediate social interaction on this website may be wanting, and so this might translate to a need for connection. These are all guesses. I don't really know what you are feeling, but if you are willing to offer them to me, then I will listen.
Having identified the need, then you can make a request to have that need met. You could make a request for a new feature, or request people who have a particular field of interest identify themselves, request for connection if you are lonely, etc. You would like to move with lightening speed to the request. Some people never make it to the request because they cannot identify the need. Others, especially men, do not even know how they are feeling, and so cannot get to the need. So let me know how you feel hearing this?

Seriously? Are you just copying and pasting? It doesn't look like you even read the OP's question.
Aleghart:
When you read the following in my response "If you are feeling scared, then there maybe a need for safety," I'm guessing you felt annoyed or disappointed because you have a need for efficiency or learning. Would you like to make a request of me? Or clarify for me what you are feeling and needing?
Thanks!
This is very insightful.
Plus, there's the incentive of Mahalo Dollars for most tasks.

M$The answers are secondary.
I'm not crazy about open threads... but depending on the subject some folks really seem to get into them.
I would rather have a contrived question or open thread than nothing at all.
I leave well enough alone and just don't go into them. For me, there are other interesting questions to answer, tasks to complete, or pages to manage.
Again, the solution is interesting questions. So, if you have any friends (even virtual ones) on other forums, twitter, etc that regularly have interesting questions... tell them to common over here.

M$You may found Mahalo not interesting to you for some time. Then take a break, come back, surf again, there will be some questions you may want to answer, a couple of tasks you think you will try anyway...
What I am saying is, it is OK to feel what you feel. You don't have to force yourself. Just keep your pace, come back whenever you feel. New people come every day, new answers needed every day.
Better keep your account. Who knows, tomorrow may be more interesting...

M$I haven't lost interest though - that's like saying I've lost interest in Britain because we're in a recession. Just because there is a clear lack of interesting questions at the minute, doesn't mean it won't get better again! ;)

M$The questions have been crazy as along as I have been here (under a month), but are often consumer driven. So people will come here with questions they could not answer on a Google search or Wikipedia or YAhoo Answers. And if they want a real answer, they pony up some Mahalo dollars, as you did with this question.
So I would return your question with a question. What are you looking to get out of Mahalo? Mahalo bucks to turn into cash? Hard to do but not impossible. Learn more, look no further there is plenty of that going on. Answering an open thread is pretty easy, just go to answers home, click on open questions and answer.
Hope this helps

M$Mahalo is a good place, but like every website that has answers and questions.. There will be days when there are many good questions. Then there will be days when there are many bad questions. I notice on every discussion site their is ebbs and flows that come and go...
Mahalo, I am new to some days does not have much I can respond to or that I am interested in, in other days I am responding rapid fire so much so that I am like wow.. my finger tips are throwing from typing so fast :) ... and much.
Just focus on the good ones and do not pay attention to the bads ones.. Eventually those posting the bad questions will stop as they will not be recieving any good answers. - DNatureofDTrain

M$The biggest trend I noticed while I was pumping through questions those first few belts is that I was consuming Mahalo in excess. "All things in moderation" has proven a good mantra to get my interest back up now--reading/answering only a couple of questions a day has helped keep the flow of questions fresh and interesting.
