I am looking for techniques in films or music videos or commercials that show the passage of time in a short hand, clever, interesting way.

When the time-traveling Englishman, H. George Wells, gets into the time machine and pushes the lever forward to move forward in time, that passage of time is represented by a mannequin in a store window opposite his home, which he can see through his window. The mannequin's clothing changes, sometimes surprising the time-traveler, especially the bathing suits. If he pushes the lever forward just a little, traveling slowly, the mannequin's clothing changes slowly. The faster he travels in time, the faster the mannequin changes. Same for backing up in time. I always really liked that part of the film.
Oh, hey! I found one of those mannequin sequences from the movie on YouTube. You see other techniques used as well, including an apple tree budding and growing fruit and a window frosting up and unfrosting with the change of seasons. Here, check it out....

M$It was a beautiful sequence to show the love and companionship in marriage and life. The death of his wife and how much it meant to him was conveyed in a short time frame. Using short film images of life together, her sickness, her death and his life to that point we saw his total existence up to opening of the movie story...beautiful!
By showing the eventful moments we see their life as a dream ....and so we see it shattered when she dies....
