I am interested in hacking 2 Gopro HD HERO cameras for real synced 3D. Willing to pay for a real solution. $$$$
There is a possibility to be able to use the 30 pin out connector. It will not be able to sync the 2 images but is a start. As it stands they wont let anyone know what the pins are. Its not the usual ipod connection layout and presents a very cool one for someone to hack. I can provide the parts. They are able to fire 2 cameras at once but they really need to be synced inside at the board level. I had a friend look at one and it can be done but unfortunately too busy to do it. I know that the connector can provide video and control of the camera as well as power it. Anyone up to the challenge of reverse engineering the boards.

There is a kit coming from Go at end of this year called the 3D Housing takes 2 HD HERO’s in a single housing - you can film in sync stereo 3D in1080p HD.

The mechanism to sync the two is to ''genlock'' them together. This involves taking the sync from one camera and driving the second with it. They are then genlocked together.
Here is the connector breakout board you will need. http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8295
its the same as used by the ipod but does not use the same pinouts. Hero regard the pinout as proprietary secret and do not disclose it. You will need to determine them yourself.
You should look for a sync signal coming out of one of the pins. If there is one there then there is probably a genlock input on one of the other pins. although some level shifting may be required.
This thread has a guy who is looking for the pinouts. You could contact HariEdo directly.

dude - I am a broadcast engineer and I know about genlock. I think that the appropriate signals must be on that connector as they themselves will be selling a 3D system sometime this year (see refs above).
If those signals are on the connector already then it will be simpler for you to use them. If not then actually it can be quite difficult to genlock the two together. probably you will want to cut the trace for the clock for one of the units and and a buffer driver chip into the other and drive the clock directly from the first unit.
I'm just trying to save you some trouble. Cheers
There is a lot more to this than just firing 2 cameras together.
They can NOT be synced from the external connector. They can be fired from it. They will then drift off into space and create horrible headache 3d. Anyone with a little more experience in this.
now that you have selected NBA - no one else will answer
