I'm considering sending things from Germany to the states by freight. What service should I use?

i have no idea how to go about this really. i rather send via ship, because i don't need these things right away and need to get a place for them first. it's not a lot of things, a few boxes and bikes. definitely not a whole container full. i need a company that will come pick it up and take care of putting into a container or whatever for me and shipping it off. being able to track the itmes would be great too.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

There are a few options for international shipping you may want to look into. You can always use the US Post Office, and then there are other options which I've linked to below. Use the service that you feel most comfortable with, both the price and the timeliness of the service. FedEx and UPS both offer tracking services.

International UPS

International FedEx

Being a guy from the US with no knowledge of Germany.... I'd use one of the biggies... UPS or Fedex. Because they're "sure" deliveries to essentially anywhere in the US.

Here's the English pages for calculating rates from Germany.

http://www.fedex.com/ratefinder/home?cc=de&language=en

Wait, you should clarify your question. Are you needing them boxed for you? Are you just needing them shipped over here? Are you also looking for storage after they are shipped?

i.e. Do you need a "moving company"? Or Do you need to mail them?

If you are shipping more than a few boxes of belongings, I would consider checking with an international mover. When we relocated to Alaska 4 years ago we contacted United Van Lines who contacted Unigroup for the barge trip through international waters. Our belongings were professionally packed and then they built a wooden crate to place the packages and furniture in. Even after a long barge trip through the Bering Sea in stormy weather, our belongings arrived with almost no damage. They gave us a personal agent that we were able to contact at each stage of the move. The communication and service was superb and the price was competetive. I would definitely use them for international moves again. Their webpage is...

Good luck!
