If you have no symptoms and they are not bothering you, they are left alone- otherwise surgery is done. Surgery can either involve a myomectomy in which they are removed, or a hysterectomy. A newer treatment called uterine fibroid embolization can also be done, in which the fibroid is shrunk or destroyed by blocking off the artery that supplies blood to them. You can read more here

These are the only choices as far as treatment is concerned. With no insurance, I would go to your local Planned Parenthood clinic, as their fees are on a sliding scale according to what you can afford. You can find a local clinic here

A new minimally invasive laparoscopic treatment of uterine fibroids is in trials phase. If you qualify then it will be of no cost to you. In this technique the fibroid is shrunk by inserting a needle-like device into the fibroid through the abdomen and heating it with low frequency electrical currents. This new treatment is still under investigation in a Phase 3 clinical trial across 6 cities in the US. The treatment is a potential option for women who have fibroids, have completed child-bearing and want to avoid a hysterectomy.

There are not any currently available medicines that will permanently shrink fibroids. Often heavy bleeding can be decreased with birth control pills. There are a number of medications in the family of GnRH agonists, which induce a temporary chemical menopause. In the absence of estrogen myomas usually decrease in size. Unfortunately, the effect is temporary, and the fibroids rapidly go back to their pre-treatment size when the medication is discontinued. Mifepristone, better know as the 'French abortion pill, or RU-486, also may cause a decrease in size of myomas, and often stops abnormal uterine bleeding. It also has undesireable side effects. It's use is promising, but it is not currently available in the United States.

As you obviously know, removal will require surgery. However, there are many options when considering surgery as well. As far as not having health insurance, perhaps you might consider seeking out a college nearby. Quite often medical procedures can be performed at universities for far less then at a hospital.

Sent this answer to your email, as well :)

I totally agree with helenclark technology don't have such machines yet to shrink fibroids, well in a situation like this having a health insurance can be very beneficial.
