Would I go see him do a standup act? Probably not.
I'm not sure he could do stand-up. I think too much of what comes out of his mouth would go over people's heads unless they are the type to follow TWiT podcasts. That, and he shares a sense of humor with my boyfriend - it takes too long to get and offends too many people along the way. And he lacks the immediate hilarity of Lewis Black in his way of being grumpy.
I would, however, watch a show of John C Dvorak walking down the street telling jokes to unsuspecting people with a camera focused on the faces of his victims.

Do I really think he should be a comedian though? No, because I don't think he would be successful.
After hearing his jokes on countless episodes of TWiT and other podcasts I think it takes a lot of time to learn his sense of humor. He is sharp and always has a quick response, but I don't think many people will understand some of his more obscure references. Most people don't have the patience to get into a new comedian, they expect to laugh right away.

I know he's dry and his humor is often as tough as an overcooked piece of meat, but there's something about his gruff, grumpy attitude that is funny. That being said, he's just not the stand-up type. His humor needs a specific audience, and honestly if you know anything about Dvorak, you're already the audience he needs.

He's very good at just exactly what he does: writing short articles. I think he should stick to it. He has a blog all his own, and he writes now and then for PC Mag. He's like Mark Twain, writing little shorties he has time to think about, and edit before he submits them. I'm not sure he'd be a good ad-libber as a stand-up guy has to be.
