I dont find it particularly peculiar, my mother tongue is German but on the internet I practically only use English, even with other German speakers. Online I think English is THE language and I like it that way because you can communicate with almost everybody. For example with someone who is Afrikaans with whom I could otherwise not communicate.

The internet is making the world flat.
