How would you survive if there were no fast-food chains, take-outs or pre-packaged foods available?

To be done on your own.

It's not as if the world was made with fast-food and pre-packaged food.

Without the fast-food and all of the heat-and-serve food available, people would just go back to the way it was before all of the pre-cooked food was manufactured - cook.

Before all of the food chains and the fast-food, people did actually cook their own meals - from scratch.

And people were a lot thinner and healthier.

I would be OK, because it is rare for me to order food, because I rather cook my own. It tastes so much better.

The first thing I would do is buy new clothes because I would be able to lose a lot more weight! Because we live in the middle of nowhere, it would be easy to go back to basics and dust off the old cook books my grandmother used.

Home baked or home made is always better for us because they lack the chemicals found in most processed foods.

The human race managed it for a long time before we had takeaways and ready meals - losing these things wouldn't kill us!

I would have a small farm with only the animals and crops that I needed to 1. Feed my family and 2. Make enough money to live comfortably.

If this ever happened we'd all be a LOT better off...

In order to survive I I will make salads every single day and boil eggs and vegetables, such as potatoes and green bananas. I will also eat fresh fruits like apples, grapes and pears. In addition to that, I will drink a lot of water.

I'd basically do what I already do--cook and serve foods without preservatives, artificial colors and other chemical additives. Fresh fruits and vegetables, good cuts of meat and natural cheeses. You know, only a few generations ago, folks did it all the time!

Luckily, i would survive because I seldom have fastfoods, take-outs and processed foods at our house. Growing up, I guess we get the habit of cooking 3 meals a day. I never thought people will not survive without the fast foods, take-outs, or processed foods, at all. I never thought that people in general are really surviving on this types of foods. Just my honest opinion, one should try to start cooking their own food, food that is healthier, food that you know what is inside it, food that you know will make you feel better. Our way of life, works, circumstances in our daily routine sometimes determines what will be on the table at meal time.

Yes, there are always options on what to buy in restaurants or supermarkets, checking the ingredients and nutritional values of what you think is good. Also, not everyone who's cooking their own food is wise on choosing what they're cooking. So, let's just make it fair to say that, people can survive without eating and ordering at restaurants and buying processed foods because there is a lot of alternatives.

Cooking your own food at home from scratch, can make you a better cook; will make you lose some weight and be fit; will make you healthier; will emotionally makes you happier (satisfaction in knowing you are feeding yourself and your family a good meal everytime, and more satisfaction when people around you appreciated and thanked you for your cooking efforts); and I would think it saves money too.

if there were no fast-food chains, take-outs or pre-packaged foods available, the best would be to take your food from home.
But another option would be to carry a a bottle of water and some fruits or a canned drink and cookies or cheerios, just like kids do.
This served me when I was in a Part of africa with no fast-food chains, take-outs or pre-packaged foods

As a vegan, I hope for the day that fast food disappears off of the face of this earth. It wouldn't bother me one bit. The worst thing we can do for our bodies and our environment is fast food. Check out the movie Fast Food Nation or check out the movie supersize me. The new movie Food Inc was also really great at showing how fast food destroys the environment. Mcdonalds, burger king and others buy up rain forest land and cut it down just to grow cattle for cheap meat. Not to mention the amazing amounts of hormones in this food. It is no wonder why the age of puberty is getting younger and younger each year, it is believed to be the growth hormones in all the meat. We have the highest rate of obesity we've ever had we have the highest rate of childhood diabetes we've ever had, we have the highest rate of heart disease.....why? fast food and processed food. Fast food promotes a sedentary life style. you will pay a lot more in the future for the short term money saved at the dollar menu. Why would you continue to eat burgers and red meat in the year 2009 when we know that not eating read meat reduces your risk of heartdisease and certain cancers, why because it tastes good. That is like a heroine addict saying they like heroine even though it has a god chance of killing them, I bet more people die from meat related diseases than from heroine overdoses.

Oh this question really hits home for me. My boyfriend insists that if the world continues the way it is we are going to run off into the woods and live in a cave. He loves to hunt and fish. I enjoy camping but can't imagine doing so without coolers full of necessary foods and condiments. I could handle living without fast food and take out, but I really need packaged foods. I just don't think I would make it living on berries and fresh hunting kills.
