How would you recover files, when final cut pro crashes using Mac OS X?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

M$Since I've had my MacBook Pro I've had cause to restore my computer on two separate occasions. The restoration was flawless and I always have the option of retrieving specific files or putting everything back where they were at the moment of my choosing.
In the case of a crashed hard drive, buying a new drive and running a complete restore would have you back up and running overnight (or sooner if the hard drive isn't that big).
In your specific example, if there's no back up and the drive is inaccessible, the files are gone. In some cases data can be recovered forensically but the cost these days starts at $500 and goes up from there. But from your question it sounds like you've done that already. Was the recovery done from a Windows machine or with a Macintosh Utility?
One solution would be to use software specifically written for your needs. Try this link: http://www.macintosh-data-recovery.com/recover-mac-final-cut.php I hope you are successful.
Prevention is the best cure. Having lost many hard drives over the years it still took over four complete losses before I learned my lesson and took backing up my files more seriously. Sadly Windows does a piss poor job, or did for me. Now that I'm back on a Mac and use Time Machine, I haven't had an irrecoverable problem since.
