, how would you go about selling or even making spirits with all the legal issues regarding home distlling?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Without knowing your location, I think the best way to find out the laws concerning this type of business is probably on line. I did some research on Google and I found a few sites which have information about this subject. I have provided links to these below for you.

From what I have read, it does not sound a particularly easy venture to be attempting. Either to distill spirits or to sell them. Like every other product for consumption, there are strict health rules and regulations with production, but in addition there are also the laws regarding distribution.

You may find the first site, which is a forum, to be the most useful, you can post questions relating to your own circumstances and receive answers from people who have already started this type of business.

Thank you for your insight regarding my question enigmatic. From what Iv'e read and researched, it is indeed a tough industry, but one that hardly elaborates on why . As far as health issues , most seem to be myths or poor quality . But in order to even practice this trade , it is illegal to attempt this idea . I look at these notable and reputable companies and say to myself ; how did they start out ? The answer seems to be a mystery . A lot of them went over seas and some even had their product bought outright for millions of dollars by distillers . There is especially limited feedback here in the United States ; unless you live in Colorado .

Thanks again

As far as the United States is concerned, fermenting wine spirits at your area of residence is allowed, however in terms of distilling them in a residential premises that is not permitted since making spirits or liquor through the process of distillation will convert your drinks with alcohol composition, thereby making it taxable and the government wants a firm grip in collecting the taxes that is slapped on the spirits.

In addition, distilling spirits or wine requires you to secure permits from Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau and other alcohol regulatory agencies. With the thick layer of bureaucratic pre-requisites prior to starting a distillation plant, it is impractical for someone to have a home brew of their own. Furthermore, you are also required to prepare regulatory reports about your distillery operations.

since home distilling seems indeed impractical , another option i came across is getting a distillery to "contract" your product . thats if that particular distillery will do it . if that is the that best option , from there what is the best course of action to take . i assume its purchasing patents and so on ?
