How will you keep newly harvested tomatoes fresh?

As long as the newly harvested tomatoes are firm, there should be no immediate necessity to do anything with them except to wash them, drain the and place them in a clean plastic bag in the salad crisper section of your fridge.
It sounds as though you may be growing your own tomatoes, if this is the case, (and what a splendid idea this is!) it is probably better to cut them from the vines as required. Should you have more than you can easily use, freeze them whole, they are excellent in casseroles and other recipes.
If you have some tomatoes which are stating to go soft, a soak over night in cold water with a little salt will noticeably have the effect of firming them up, I have done this successfully many times.
