How will the injury by Rene Adler affect the german World Cup team?

Rene Adler needs surgery on a broken rib, meaning he won't be part of the German World Cup Team. Rene Adler was the first goalie of both the national team, and Bayer Leverkusen. He will now probably be replaced by Manuel Neuer, the current goalie of Schalke 04.

How much of a setback is this for Germany on the World Cup?

It's a big setback, because Manuel Neuer has minimal international experience. He is apparently a very agile goalkeeper, but is prone to lacks of concentration. Germany is arguably the country that has produced the most world-class goalkeepers down through the years (Sepp Maier, Oliver Kahn, Jens Lehmann); for them to be entering into a major tournament without an internationally recognised goalkeeper is a very unusual situation.

However, more significant is probably the recent injury to Michael Ballack. The captain and undisputed leader, his injury could really spell the end of Germany's chances of winning the World Cup. They were in a difficult group to begin with; Serbia, Australia, Ghana, there is no easy game there. They will need new leaders to step up, like Philip Lahm, Miroslav Klose, and even Bastian Schweinsteiger.

I think overall, Germany will now be very lucky to make much progress in this year's World Cup.

Germany is indeed one of the team to watch in the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
Any injury of a key player in any sports team will certainly hurt the team’s campaign. So as much as possible it is the best for any team to have a healthy line up on its roster to maximize chance of winning every game as much as possible.
Germany will certainly miss the services of René Adler who plays as the team’s goalkeeper. Adler is the Bundesliga’s best goalkeeper in 2008 and many time member of the German national football team even during his junior years.

The 25 year-old Adler is the main goalkeeper of Germany and with his injury there is big space left to fill by the team’s reserves in South Africa. Adler’s injury dealt a severe blow to the chances of Germany in the Cup. But Germany are resilient and persevering they will surely maximize the resources they have to overcome the injury of their top goalkeeper.

Rene Adler was first choice keeper for Germany heading into the World Cup being held in South Africa. The Bayer Leverkusen shot stopper recently sustained a rib injury in a recent game and was unable to finish. He tried to return to action in a home match but after the game the injury once again acted up. It has been reported that he needs surgery to correct the problem and that he will not be fully recovered in time to represent Germany. He will likely be replaced by Schalke goaler Manuel Neuer. Whenever you lose the goaler you considered number one, your chances are reduced. Their chance at winning the cup is not as good as it once was and that is not meant as a knock on the replacement goalie. Having to face top competition from around the world even with Rene would have been tough. When you have a goalie you believe in you are much less worried about making a mistake and able to attack your opponent much better.
