How was Watchmen, and could you write a detailed response?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I thought the Watchmen was very well done overall.

It followed the graphic novel very well, with a few major changes to make it more appealing to mainstream audiences, but most of those changes didn't detract too much.
The effects were incredible. Better than 300, I think. Fights had the "300 effect" where they alternate between slow-motion and sped-up.
The music in the movie wasn't so great. Some of the choices were strange enough to pull you out of the movie for a second to think, "WTF is this song doing here?"
Spoilers ahead:
The story was pretty good, because, as I mentioned above, it stays faithful to the original story. However, I was unhappy about some of the exclusions. The Tales of the Black Freighter isn't mentioned, Hollis Mason is never killed, the scenes of the news stand were removed, and the psychological deterioration of Rorschach's psychologist isn't shown either. However, apparently these were only cut for time, and appear in the extended version. The end was changed from an "alien" to a framing of Dr. Manhattan, but the idea remains the same, and the change didn't bother me greatly.

I recommend it strongly, especially if you've read the novel.

There is a lot of gore, and kind of a lot of nudity, plus a sex scene.

I saw it at midnight on Thursday/Friday.
