There are many odd coincidences between these two historical figures. Some similar events in their careers occurred exactly 100 years apart. Both had vice presidents named Johnson; Andrew Johnson was born in 1808, Lyndon Johnson was born in 1908. Both assassins were killed before their trials. But there were of course also lots of differences in their careers. Kennedy was killed before he had the chance to be re-elected, but Lincoln was re-elected to a second term. Lincoln was best known for signing the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, that declared that slaves within the confederacy were forever free. It is a little more difficult to say what Kennedy was best known for, but he advanced the cause of civil rights in the U.S. and he made a difference in the economic climate of the times.
