How was iron made in MesoAmerica?

Explain the process of creating iron in MesoAmerica.

From what I have been able to find, metallurgy was developed relatively late in MesoAmerica, and seems to have focused on silver, gold, and copper . They also worked with alloys. Obsidian and copper were more prevalent components of the weapons you mention. They may have had exposure to iron gathered from meteorites.
