How useful is knowing common French phrases if I've travelling to a French speaking country?
What are the most important french phrases I need to know if I'm travelling to france? What countries are French speaking that I could travel to once I know some good French phrases?

OK, the phrases I think are worth knowing are:
1) Bonjour! = Hello (something you are supposed to say when entering a shop or starting a conversation with whoever it is)
2) Merci! = Thank you
3) Au revoir! = Bye!
4) Excusez-moi = Excuse me (used to attract attention)
5) Combien ça coûte? = How much does it cost?
6) Je voudrais ... = I would like ...
In order to read the above, you will of course need to master the rules of pronunciation. But you can go to http://www.forvo.com/ to check if any of the expressions I mentionned have already been prononuced.
