Speaking with actual grad students in the programs that I was interested in. Now that I have actually completed graduate school I see that I could have learned valuable information if I had just been given the opportunity to talk to students taking the courses in my program. I would have been able to ask straight forward questions and received honest answers from individuals who were actually experiencing what I would be put through for 5 years. It would have helped me prepare myself for what was in store as well.

I strongly suggest this to anyone that is looking around for graduate schools. You don't want to go anywhere that the students are mistreated or unhappy.

• All were excellent answers. I just picked this one because missing this information could have been a deal breaker for reaching graduation so it could be a very important thing to know to avoid programs with a "chilly climate" for students for example. Thanks everyone!

Looking back, I think that I would have chosen a geographical area and then chose a grad school in that area. The reason is that I would have chosen an area that was experiencing rapid growth in it's economy and low unemployment. That would have increased my chances of getting a good local paid internship. Even now there are areas in the country that are growing. Salt Lake City is one.

I chose grad school based on 1) knowing the school was a good one from word from the professors at my undergrad school, 2) knowing the area and being comfortable with the idea of moving there, 3) knowing of friends who would also be there with me.

I say, pick a good quality state school in an area near family or friends that you know has a relatively good reputation for the field you are pursuing. That's all I did.
