This site seems to give a decent Carbon footprint estimate for an individual or a family.

Here is a great website showing a visual simulation in real-time showing the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, birth rates, and death rates of every country in the world.
http://www.breathingearth.net/
Here is another calculation for CO2 emission by simple human breathing, some say our breathing is carbon neutral.
"On average, a human will breath 16 times per minute.
Each breath will contain, on average, 0.037 grams of CO2.
An average year is 525948.766 minutes.
An average human will live to be 67 years old.
This means that the average CO2 exhaled by the average human in her lifetime will be 20861230 grams, or 23 tons.
That’s a lot of mass, but this value is hard to compare to anything. The average CO2 exhaled by all humans in one year is 2230000000 tons, or 2.23 gigatons."
"The current mass of CO2 in the atmosphere is 3000000000000 or 3 teratons 4. The amount of CO2 added to the atmosphere by human respiration is obviously miniscule."

How can we best calculate our own Carbon Footprint?
With all the different information about energy consumption and its relevance to how we live our lives and in order to have a good starting out point from which to measure improvements in our carbon footprint we need an easy and reliable way to effectively measure our own, any suggestions?

That is amazing. Sources like the CIA and the UN make this BreathingEarth site really interesting and believable. Truly cool.

I found those 2 websites earlier, I thought someone was talking about measuring their carbon footprint.....apparently they meant their actual footprint.....

An easy and I think reliable way would be to use various web sites carbon footprint calculators. Since there is so many different factors to determining your foot print a manual way would prove exhausting. ( Unless your a physics Major ) So I would use at least five different calculators and the when finished I would add up the total of all five and then divide by five to find the answer. I feel that this would give you the advantage of using all the information, because not all carbon calculators will be the same. Some of the sites calculators data may not be up to date. This way your odds of receiving current data to determine your footprint is greater. You are combining all there sources into one best possible answer. Here is a list of five calculators. http://brighterplanet.com/entries/20-carbon_footprint_calculation

I am not disputing the suggestion of averaging out the calculations of the different C-footprint calculators, rather, I'm offering a refinement learned from the Italians and how they handle bidding on public service contracts or any other situation where the methods people are using to derive an estimate are so subjective and widely variable.
The drop the highest and the lowest estimates before calculating the average (and then, in the case of public service contracts, give the contract to the estimate that came closest to the average).
