Dried wax on the carpet and how to remove.

Hello, I was wondering how someone would go about removing hardened wax on your carpet/rugs. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Use an ice cube to freeze the wax hard and then try to chip away as much as possible. Use a pointed object but be careful not to damage the carpet fibers. Then get a warm iron and some clean rags you're willing to throw away, or several sheets of clean white paper. Put the rags or paper over the remains of the way and press down with the iron to melt the wax into the rags or paper. Repeat as necessary to remove as much of the wax as possible. (Be careful not to leave the iron in one spot too long so you don't scorch the carpeting. You may want to try it in an out-of-the way spot to be sure the carpet can take the heat without melting.) It it leaves a stain you may need to try a good carpet cleaning product to finish removing the spot.

• Thank you all for the answers to my question! They were all very helpful, although @jillbeth 's answer was a bit more in-depth. I also now have a wax-free rug and carpet.

First, scrape up as much wax as you can with a blunt knife. Then cover what's left with a couple of layers of paper towels and use an iron heated until it's very warm, and press it down on the paper towels. As the towels absorb the heated wax, keep moving them so that there is a fresh area to absorb what's left. When the paper isn't absorbing any more wax, you've probably gotten all that's possible to remove from the rug.
