How to tell if an egg is boiled or not?

When I boil an egg, I place it back in the same carton. Sometimes I am confused which one is boiled and which one is not. Sure, I can mark them but what is a *fast* way to recognize which ones are boiled? Thanks

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

If you place your egg on a smooth, flat surface like a countertop and spin it, if it is hard boiled it will spin easily. If you spin it hard enough, it will even stand upright. If it is still raw in the shell it will spin awkwardly and wobble.

Spin the egg on a flat surface. Hard boiled eggs will spin freely and raw eggs will not.

The boiled egg will always feel heavier as it's contents are now denser. You could also shake it by your ear to see if you hear the fluid moving.

If eggs are fresh enough, you won't hear any liquid. (I used to raise chickens and ducks for the eggs). Most grocery store eggs are so old that they slosh when you shake them, but if they are fresh, they won't!

Put comment in wrong place down below. The asker said she put the egg back in the caton so I would say most of us do not have chickens and go to the store to buy our eggs.
