How to stop persian cats from eating your clothes?

Tip for best answer: M$1.10
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Maybe there is something is the washing method that appeals to them. It could be the smell of the detergent or clothes softener. It could even be the human scent that appeals to them. The question didn't specifically say whether the cats are eating the clothing before or after it was laundered.

I'd say the best way to prevent this from happening is to keep all clothing out of harm's way. Use a lidded hamper for all dirty clothing and make sure all clean laundry is put away in drawers, or safely hung behind closed closet doors.

It seems cats chewing on clothes isn't all that unusual. Possible causes range from boredom to emotional instability to physical illness. You might want to discuss the situation with your vet if home remedies don't work; ingesting fabric could lead to physical problems. Check the article below for some steps you can take to change the behavior.
