How can I learn to speak Spanish quickly?

Tip for best answer: M$1.10
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Immersion is the best way. Bring your dictionary and audio instructionals with you to help reinforce what you learn on the cuff. When you have to you learn faster. Take some time off and go to a country or a location where you have to understand and as a result of that pressure, you will advance faster.

There are many nuances to Spanish, but you can learn the basics for communication in a few months and, if you have an ear for the language, you can begin to pronounce more like a native speaker. Take a vacation if you do go and make it a fun experience and do a variety of things to increase the learning vocabulary that you can acquire.

I have been learning Spanish this way and am functionally bilingual after 2 years, without having any formal instruction, except as a sophomore in High School. That was a long time ago. I have never used the Rosetta Stone program at length, but I have seen a demo and that would be a good introduction if you need it.

Spend a week in Miami, hanging out in the little havana little Managua areas. Walk all along Calle Ocho, which is SW 8th Street and US highway 41. Stop at every hispanic joint you can find, and buy something. Maybe being surrounded by hispanics will force you to say something in Spanish no matter how bad it may be, they might chuckle but will appreciate you trying.
