how to say naked

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

"Nackt" (pronounced with the "a" like in "father") is, I believe, the more frequently-used term in German. There are other words for "naked" ("blank," "offen," "bloß," "kahl," etc.) but my dictionary shows "in the buff" as "nackt" and "half naked" is listed as "halbnackt," so it seems the most common way of saying "undressed" is "nackt."

The phrase "with the naked eye" is listed as "mit bloßem Auge" (so there's your "bloß" as mentioned above) but "naked" in this sense is not the same as "without clothes." The phrase "naked flame" is listed as "offenes Feuer" (there's the "offen" from the list above), but again "naked" in this context means more "uncovered" and not "undressed."

So you see, "naked" in English carries a few different meanings - all of which may or may not have separate words in German. Foreign languages are tough, I'll admit. I assume you just want to know "naked" as in "undressed" - I'd go with "nackt."

You can have a look at the dictionary yourself, it's at the link below in my sources.
