If you put it into a literal translator it will come out different, but it will be wrong. So to say, "Hello, my name is Tom" you would say "Bonjour, je m'appele Tom."
The literal translation of "my name is" in french is "mon nom est" but you wouldn't say that, you would say "je m'appele."
