How can I save money on groceries?

Tip for best answer: M$2.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

i have a series of things i do to really strategize with my grocery shopping. first off, i plan ahead what i'll need to get. but more generics, like if i need veggies or meat or pasta, not specifics like "oh, i'm out of rigatoni." then i clip coupons every sunday and hold onto them. i only shop at grocery stores that will double my coupons & that also have fuel rewards (kroger & giant eagle) and i only but the item & use the coupon if the item is also on sale. when i get veggies, i check the manager's special bin first and buy what i can use then cook or freeze it within a day. when i get meat, i only get it if it's the manager's special (with the peel off $1 & $2 coupons on it it). then i separate it into ziploc bags and freeze it. i've quickly learned that "fresh is best" when feeding your family. so instead of buying packaged spaghetti oh's, i boil a box of ditalini, drain, mix in tomato soup, heat, sprinkle mozarrella over top, and voila! a $2 meal of spaghetti oh's for the whole family, that tasts WAY better! meals are cheaper made from scratch as well. i stick with soups, roasts, grilled foods, and pastas. and my tummy is quite happy. i never ever buy a kit or frozen dinner. i've done without them for several months now and have saved a pretty penny. instead, i look at the kit, decide what i need, get an identical recipe from allrecipes.com via my cell, and then get it together. i always use my shopper card, and i bank up my reward points in as many ways as possible. my boyfriend and i share our card, because i do alot of grocery shopping, and he does alot of driving, so we compliment each other with more rewards. i also try to grocery shop only once every 2 weeks, and keep it under $25. though sometimes i splurge on a fantastic deal. another tip to saving money with groceries, is to never let anything waste! be creative with leftovers, and watch the expiration dates on what you currently have. with the accessibility of the internet & information these days, you can surely find a fantastic recipe for using up that container of cottage cheese at the back of your fridge. (my vote is for lasagna!)

But making smart buying decisions, you can save a lot on groceries and everything else.
First plan your shopping.
Select the merchant/store and then search for coupons/deals if available.
Always choice between more than one alternatives (Merchants) and your choice is based on quality of items, freshness and price; how much you able to save by using coupons and discounts.
Then after making the choice, select best coupons to use and then enjoy savings.
By putting small efforts, you can save a lot.
Thanks

people will probably say coupons, but planning is key when making grocery lists. decide what meals you want to have for the week and plan accordingly; all breakfast, lunch and dinner items. include the snacks and beverages. this will prevent impulse purchases when you have a plan. THEN look at coupons for things you need, and you're not just buying them because you have a coupon.

You can always cut coupons that are found in the Sunday newspaper, which is helpful. The second thing you could do is apply for a club card found at many national grocery chains. Then you can visit sites such as http://shortcuts.com/ and https://www.pgesaver.com/, which offer online coupons. Upon registering, you enter your club card number. Then you simply find the coupons you'd like, add them to your card, and they are then preloaded to your club card, so when they scan your club card on your next grocery store visit, they count automatically towards eligible items in your shopping cart. I have found this personally very helpful. There is a counter on your page that lets you know how much you have saved by utilizing your coupons at the grocery store. It's much easier than clipping coupons, but the ideal thing is doing both and often you can save TWICE on the same products.
