How to qualify to getting a "free" p.o. box at the postal office?

Tip for best answer: M$0.75
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I personally do have a "free" PO Box. I did pay a $2.00 one-time fee to get keys for it, but I am not charged an annual fee to keep this box.

The reason it is free for me is because there is no curbside delivery for my house. Since curbside delivery is normally free (as far as I know), if you do not get such a delivery, they must provide you a free PO Box at the local office. In order to open the box as free, I had to show proof of residency. Since there was no mail and my deed does not have the physical address, I had to use my loan approval paperwork.

The USPS website describes this kind of delivery "Central Point Delivery". It just so happens that in many of the communities around me, the Central Point is the Post Office.

I searched it on Google...found a couple of websites...but I don't know if they are trustworthy...I searched how to geta free p.o. box....so feel free to check them out but I don't want to break the rules and submit a URL that is faulty. I would suggest contacting your local post office however and asking how one would go about doing so. Around here I have never heard of being able to...But you never know things change every day...I hope one of those websites help..here is the Google search link

I don't think you can. I worked customer service for the U.S. Postal System for a while and never heard of a free post office box being available to anyone.

I've heard of some very small post offices that don't provide service to homes that are nearby and they're required to pick up their mail at the post office. It could be that the post office provides a box for free in those instances.

Your guess is correct. I do not get curbside delivery at my house, so I have a free PO Box instead.

Here are some info provided by the United states postal service website.

----quote----
Mail typically arrives faster at a PO Box than at a residential or business address.

Fees for a six-month term start as low as $10.

Choose a location close to work or home—whatever fits your needs. Select Post Offices have extended business hours and/or 24-hour lobby access.

4 Simple Steps to Find and Pay for a New PO Box online:

1) Find your Post Office location and desired box size.
2) Complete the online PO Box application.
3) Enter your credit card, review fees and application details, then submit.
4) Print the Online PO Box Application (PS Form 1093). Take it with two forms of ID to the Post Office to pick up your keys and PO Box number.

Further info can be had from the source link.
