Generally a press kit includes information about a company/campaign/band, etc. that the press would be interested in.
In a nutshell, you are trying to give them the basics about why they should pay attention to your band. So for a new band, your kit should include your logo, some background on the band, bios on each of the band members, a demo CD, and anything else you can think of that will make a reporter care that the band is in existence. Do you have any interesting story? Did the band form in some special way?
Just try to put things in there about why they should listen to your CD, and why they should write about you.
