How to find good engineers?

My company is trying to find experienced high caliber RF & programming engineers in Toledo, OH. We've used Monster and the local universities but are having a hard time finding the experienced high level hire.

Any additional resources you can think of that might help use find someone?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Give up on the online systems and focus on the networking places like LinkedIn (which themselves are also becoming swarmed with recruiters). The best way to find "experienced high level hires" is to get the word out among your friends and former coworkers. Heck, that's how I just got this job, and that's how the guy I just interviewed got his interview. Once you get "high level" enough, the simple little buzzword collector forms that people fill out online are not nearly good enough to help you find a candidate, you need the personal recommendation of people know you and trust.

Good answer.

If it's a very particular specialism, you need high-level people, and you need them in Ohio, that might be quite a small pool of people. Networking within the industry could be fruitful, and specialist recrutiment agencies and headhunters might be worth a try.

You could try what Mahalo is trying for Django developers, and offer a bounty to anyone that gives you a lead that works out.

I would agree with the previous answer: Ohio is not a great place to find high-level software engineers (though perhaps RF). I would at least consider building a distributed team if the nature of your project permits. Once you've designed a process that supports remote workers, your talent pool is only constrained by the time zones you're willing to work with. Besides, many of the best engineers I know only do telecommute (with occasional travel meetings, of course) so that they can live out in the country with their families.

I highly recommend you network on LinkedIn. I know a few qualified programming engineers if you send me your email, or email me I will get them out to you. Tell me what you are looking for, and I might be able to find a guy for you.
